InfantSEE®
At Rosato Family Eyecare, we are proud to participate in the InfantSEE® program, a national public health initiative that provides free eye assessments for infants between 6 and 12 months of age. This one-time service detects potential vision and eye health problems early, ensuring that all babies have access to eye care, regardless of income or ability to pay.

Early Vision Care for Your Baby at Rosato Family Eyecare
InfantSEE® is a no-cost program developed by the American Optometric Association to make eye care an essential part of your baby’s wellness. Through this initiative, our goal is to provide early detection of eye and vision problems, helping to improve your child’s quality of life and development.
Our participating optometrists use specialized techniques and tools to assess your baby’s eye health safely and non-invasively. Early identification of issues like amblyopia, poor eye alignment, or other vision risks allows for timely intervention, supporting your baby’s growth and learning.
Why Early Eye Care is Important
Many parents are unaware that vision development starts from birth, with the most critical stages occurring in the first year of life. Regular eye assessments during infancy can identify risk factors that may impact your child’s visual and cognitive development.
- Preventing Vision Issues: Early detection can reduce the likelihood of conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye), which affects 1 in 30 children and can lead to vision loss if untreated.
- Supporting Development: Proper eye health is essential for spatial awareness, motor skills, and overall cognitive growth during these formative months.
By participating in the InfantSEE® program, you can help ensure that your baby’s vision develops as it should, laying the foundation for a lifetime of healthy sight.

What to Expect During an InfantSEE® Assessment in Alpha NJ
Our optometrists use engaging, lighted toys and gentle techniques to evaluate your baby’s eyes. The assessment checks for crucial aspects of vision health, including:
- Visual Acuity: Ensuring your baby’s vision is developing normally.
- Refractive Status: Checking for conditions like nearsightedness or farsightedness.
- Eye Movement and Alignment: Assessing how well the eyes work together and track objects
- Overall Eye Health: Identifying any early signs of eye disease or abnormalities.
These evaluations are quick, comfortable, and designed to make the experience positive for both you and your baby.
What Parents Need To Know About Vision Development Milestones
Your baby’s vision develops rapidly in the first year of life. Here’s what you can expect at different stages:
- At Birth: Focuses on objects less than a foot away, such as a parent’s face while feeding.
- By 3 Months: Begins to track moving objects and reach for things; occasional eye misalignment is normal.
- By 6 Months: Eyes should focus equally, and eye-body coordination skills begin to develop.
- By 12 Months: Uses both eyes to judge distance and engages in eye contact to communicate.
